Welcome to the weekly guide to Doctor Who<,/span> broadcasts around the world.
Canadians, rejoice! Word broke on Outpost Gallifrey http://www.gallifreyone.com/ Tuesday that BBC Kids, one of two digital BBC channels launching this fall, has added Doctor Who to its lineup. BBC Kids will go on the air in November - 2 months after most of the new channels, including BBC Canada. To get the station, you need to be subscribed to either digital cable or a satellite system, and your cable/satellite provider has to decide to pick the station up. It is unknown at this time which Doctor BBC Kids will start with, or what time the show will air. When the website for BBC Kids is up, it will be http://www.bbckids.ca/ .
Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay - guess what, you've got Doctor Who as well, starting in October! Imagen Satelital, a Latin America broadcaster, has bought the rights to air Doctor Who on one of their TV stations, which will air in the 5 above named countries. Looking over the stations mentioned on their website http://www.imagensat.com.ar/ , I believe that Uniseries http://www.uniseries.com.ar/ is the most likely home for Doctor Who, because it is the only one that is focusing on new and old TV shows. TV listings information for down there is very sketchy, so hopefully there are some readers left from when HBO OLE aired the TV movie down there multiple times in 1999 who might know where to go for accurate listings in that part of the world. Imagen Satelital's pickup of Doctor Who was first announced on Outpost Gallifrey at the same time the BBC Canada news came out. Good week for the Western Hemisphere.
Death Comes To Time again. In yet another scoop, Outpost Gallifrey got a press release from the BBC regarding the Death Comes To Time audio drama. The BBC had previously decided to record the remaining 5 episodes of this Doctor Who story, with Sylvester McCoy as the Doctor and Sophie Aldred as Ace. Now they have decided where to release the episodes - at http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/ , where episode 1 came out in July. The 5 new episodes will come online in real audio format at the rate of 1 episode per week in 2002 (start date not on the BBC's release). Like episode 1, the episodes will have colour illustrations by Lee Sullivan. Episode 1 is still online for people to listen to right now.
Dallas, TX - KERA 13 http://www.kera.org/ will be offered to Dallas area viewers on Direct TV come January 2002. More and more stations are being offered in local satellite packages in major markets. PBS stations have lagged behind major network affiliates, but are expected to go up eventually. KERA is the first Doctor Who airing station known to have announced that they will be on a satellite service.
Additions and corrections are welcome at bfelliott@... , bfelliott@... , bfelliott3 on AOL IM, or thebfe on Yahoo! Messenger. And now, the listings:
Story descriptions are off on vacation, but I have told them to send postcards next week to make up for it.
